Ja/De HIGHSTOOL is a high stool designed around the themes of reinterpretation and reconstruction. It is inspired by the Japanese concept of “Utsushi” and the Danish idea of “Redesign.” While these concepts can be understood in different ways, this project sees them as deeply understanding the essential ideas and details of an existing object, then reinterpreting and reconstructing them into a new form. The stool reinterprets a well-known Scandinavian children’s chair and reconstructs it into a high stool by combining a form reminiscent of a traditional Nordic sled with a 3D-printed seat. The design blends Scandinavian familiarity with contemporary fabrication technology to create a new and distinctive piece of furniture.
